Posted on TS 2/20/04: I delivered my stock 2000 4x4 Limited Access Cab Tundra to Unichip near Portland, Oregon on Tuesday afternoon, Feb 17, 2004. My first impressions of Jack were professional, knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and willing. His shop appears "new" as does his Dastek 4-wheel Eddy Current Loading DYNO. I'm not familiar with DYNO's so I'll leave that to the experts. Jack also has a stocked inventory of Unichip products. His technicians appear to have the right credentials, experience and technical expertise along with the "intellectual curiosity" and commitment that I think is necessary for someone to excel. One of his South African partners has tuned over 8K (8,000) vehicles with the Unichip (which originated in South Africa). They will be working with my truck for 3 days to determine the correct design/configuration for a PnP harness and tuning the Unichip for a stock 2000 Tundra. After that I will take it for approximately three weeks (with a hard-wired Unichip) to drive and provide feedback. After approximately three weeks of "testing and feedback", I will return the truck for the installation of the PnP harness and additional tuning using a "Phased Approach" over an approximately one-month period (longer if required). The truck will be tuned incrementally as each of the following modifications/products is added. I plan on adding a/an: (1) Airbox/intake mod [airbox is drilled(taped for Unichip tuning)], can anyone provide empirical data to support the additional cost/ROI of either a RAM or FIPK/similar device over just drilling the airbox?, (2) Catback exhaust system(TBD - any recommendations?? I am looking for value & ROI; HP per $$ invested, do not want loud/deafening), (3) SS Autochrome Headers and Y pipe(purchased), (4) and lastly the TRD Supercharger(purchased). The end state is for Jack to be able to map the Unichip for different configurations of the 2000 Tundra, from stock to a supercharged version and for me to have a well-tuned 325+ RWHP Tundra. Let me add that as a "new" Amsoil Dealer, I have added insurance to protect my truck against the additonal stresses to the powerplant; installing Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 0W30 oil with the Bypass Oil System (SDF full-flow oil filter with Bypass oil filter). My truck now has between 9 & 10 quarts of "analytically clean" oil constantly running through the engine). I have also installed Amsoil Synthetic ATF in the Transmission and Power Steering; (planned SPX Filtran Inline transmission filter kit). I have also installed Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 75W90 in both axles and the differential. I filled the brake system with GT/LMA Brake fluid and plan on repacking bearings with Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic grease. I will keep TundraSolutions members informed of the progress on my truck. I will also give an evaluation of the difference in my truck (before and after), during each phase of the project and will ask Jack/Unichip to publish the HP/Torque increases on this forum, after the installation of each mod. Thanks, Todd
